I'm ready to capture my student's back to school excitement with some terrific new speech and language activities!
Who doesn't love something shiny and new for back to school? In addition to that cute new outfit, I want to knock my student's socks off with speech therapy activities that are super fun and engaging. So, I have been busy creating a few and shopping for more of the best activities to add to my wishlist.
The first place I head (okay, after the Target bargain aisle) is to TPT. The problem is, there are tons of great activities and stores, and it can be time-consuming to sift through it all. No worries! I'm going to save you some time and show you what I've found. But this will make it even sweeter:

A new speech and language activity at Speech Sprouts
I have been busy creating this summer and am excited for you to check out my newest addition to my Back to School Activities at Speech Sprouts. Ta da!
I have had requests for more Bingo Riddles games,
Back to School Bingo Riddles |
so I created this one with a fun school theme. My best-selling Bingo Riddles packs combine fun rhyming riddles with a favorite game. (You should hear me walk around the house talking to myself, as I make up new riddles. Hubby thinks I'm a bit crazy anyway!) You'll target vocabulary, inference, listening comprehension and rhyme.
I love using it for push-in activities or large groups (plenty for everybody with 28 boards) as well as my small groups.
A sweet comment
on another of my Bingo Riddles games: "This is the 2nd year that I have used these, and I had to write a review...because I love it so much. I have used it with preschoolers, 6th graders, and all of the grades in between. All of the clues are clever and witty and fun and appropriate. I just can't rate this high enough."
If this is your lovely comment, please e-mail me at speechsproutstherapy@gmail.com. I have a surprise for you!

Check out this resource from SLPTalk with Desiree, using paint sticks. What a fun twist on articulation therapy! My kids really enjoy manipulative activities.

One of my favorite back to school activities is having cupcakes and doing a freebie I got years ago called cupcake conversation starters. I bring in cupcakes for my students and we answer the conversation starters as a way of getting to know each other and having a fun treat to kick off the year.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite activity for back to school are get to know you activities. M&M fun packs where they had to share information based on the color M&Ms (red=What you did this summer, orange=favorite subject in school, etc)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this idea!!
DeleteThank you so much for the shout-out, Lisette! Your riddles look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love to do the Chrysanthemum wrinkled heart activity. Have a great school year!
ReplyDeleteI've never done a formal activity. We just spend the first session getting to know each other and talk about fun things that we did over the summer - no talking about video games though!
ReplyDeleteI love doing back to school bingo with skittles! Can't wait to put items in my cart! Looking forward to a great year!
ReplyDeleteWe usually talk about what we did over the summer and I informally assess the artic. kids' conversational speech.
ReplyDeleteIn the past I have had my students fill out one of these pages while getting to know each other:

There are some great ideas posted here though, so I might have to switch it up this year!!
Thanks so much for the shout out here Lisette! Your bingo riddles look so engaging! What a great idea! :)
ReplyDeleteWe love "the kissing hand" for the first day of prek!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite BTS activities are always language based games so I can get a feel for the students in a fun way. Rory's Story Cubes always go great with mixed groups!
ReplyDeletekissing hand too michelle miller
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! I like easing into the year with some get to know you activities, as well as setting the stage for the year by going over our expectations.
ReplyDeleteI love all these ideas! I usually don't plan a formal activity or game for my first sessions and just let the kiddos get reacquainted with each other by discussing their summer experiences. I have also given the students "All About Me" sheets to help them introduce themselves to their groups. This year, I would love to try the Back to School Bingo game!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! The articulation sticks for very interesting!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteSince I work in a private clinic, I like to help prepare my little ones for going back to school by reading books about the first day of school, such as the "Pout, Pout Fish Goes to School" by Deborah Diesan or "Llama, llama Misses Mama" by Anna Dewdney. Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteI love the "if you take a mouse to school" book. I can do a mouse craft for my nonverbal students, go over sequencing and vocabulary for my language kiddos, and I have a mouse artic companion for my other students. After we do the ice breaking story, then I can ask them questions about their expectations etc for the upcoming school year!
ReplyDeleteI usually do not do a formal BTS activity. We have good conversation about summer fun and then on to baseline info...
ReplyDeleteHave a great year!
I'm still looking for the perfect BTS activity! Right now, it's more informal catching up and/or getting to know you, while I informally assess where their skills are at!
ReplyDeleteI have the children answer questions pertaining to a specific colored M & M they grab.
ReplyDeleteI love to read First Day Jitters!! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like your articulation sticks....great idea! Sherwin Williams is great about giving out sticks, too!
ReplyDeleteThis year we are reading If you Take A Mouse to school. Love using interactive activities.
ReplyDeleteThis year we are reading If you Take A Mouse to school. Love using interactive activities.
ReplyDeleteI love using a variety of back to school activities. Books, games, crafts, etc.
ReplyDeleteI usually share one of my favourite read alouds and then we talk about learning to read and becoming better readers this year!
ReplyDeleteI usually do a getting to know me activity as well. I'm going to change it up this year though. Lots of great ideas from your readers. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite back to school activities are getting to know you activities. I have a few versions of All About Me worksheets I do with my regular ed students, but with my low incidence and younger students I typically show a group of pictures (ex. 4 different foods), and ask them to choose their favorite. They all enjoy these and we learn about each other.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to try your Back to School Bingo Riddles, too!
I work with preschool age children and enjoy having them do all about me activities. I have them draw a picture of themselves and it is fun to look at again at the end of the year. I'm interested in using the book The Kissing Hand this year.
ReplyDeleteLove to do an Emoji project so students have a little something to share about themselves. Makes for a great display too. Thank you for the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteHi. My fave back to school activity, is to work on I CAN statements. Making sure, the students KNOW exactly what their speech goal /s are.
ReplyDeleteI like to use Kissing Hand, too! I try to use books that the teachers are using..
